ISOBUTANE

(methylpropane, 2-methylpropane, trimethylmethane, 1,1-dimethylethane, i-butane, pure isobutane)

Isobutane (methylpropane, 2-methylpropane, trimethylmethane, 1,1-dimethylethane, i-butane, pure isobutane) is flammable and explosive colorless and odorless gas, liquefied under pressure. Its self-ignition temperature (at a pressure 0,1MPa, 760mm.rt) is 462°C. Mixture with air is explosive in volume concentration at 1.3% - 8.5% (200g on 1m3 of air). Isobutane (methylpropane, 2-methylpropane, trimethylmethane, 1,1-dimethylethane, i-butane, pure isobutane) is readily soluble in mineral oils and organic solvents, badly soluble in water.

Isobutane (methylpropane, 2-methylpropane, trimethylmethane, 1,1-dimethylethane, i-butane, pure isobutane) is used as fuel component of internal combustion engines due to high octane number, in the production of foamed polymeric materials, as a raw material for alkylation processes in oil refining, as refrigerant and gas displacer.

Isobutane (methylpropane, 2-methylpropane, trimethylmethane, 1,1-dimethylethane, i-butane, pure isobutane) is packed in steel cylinders working under pressure. Filling (charging, pumping) factor not more than 0,5 kg on 1 dm3 of cylinder capacity. The product is stored in warehouse of the respective category, under a canopy or in open air avoiding direct sunlight. Isobutane (methylpropane, 2-methylpropane, trimethylmethane, 1,1-dimethylethane, i-butane, pure isobutane) is transported by all types of carriage in compliance with hazardous goods rules.
